More than 46% of the state's total guava production comes from the Big Island. Guavas grow wild throughout the island and on farms on the eastern side of the island. The acreage devoted to guava orchards is less than 500 acres. More than 7 million pounds of guava, valued at over $1 million, are produced annually. The fruit is rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, phosphorus, and fiber. Ripe guavas are yellow and can be eaten fresh. Other products made from guava include puree, nectars, drinks and fruit blends, sherbets, cakes, jams and jellies. All processed guava products are available in food stores.
