March 13, 2010 Proposed Draft Charter with Report submitted to County Council Hawai‘i Revised Statutes § 50-8: One year from appointment. March 13, 2010 is a Saturday
April 12, 2010 Council returns Charter to Commission with proposed alternatives, if any. 30 Days. Hawai‘i Revised Statutes § 50-8: Council must return Charter with alternatives within 30 days.
May 12, 2010 Commission accepts or rejects any proposed alternatives from Council, If no alternatives, Commission submits draft Charter to Clerk. Hawai‘i Revised Statutes § 50-9: Commission has 30 days to review Council alternatives. If no alternatives, Commission has 30 days to submit Charter to the Clerk.
May 22, 2010 Deadline for Council to recall rejected alternatives. Hawai‘i Revised Statutes § 50-9: Council has 10 days to recall Commission rejected alternatives.
After May 22, 2010 Commission submits proposed charter and any non-recalled Council alternatives to the Clerk. Hawai‘i Revised Statutes § 50-9: This may occur sooner with consent of the Council.
September 3, 2010 Charter Amendment Questions Submitted to State Office of Elections Required 60 Days Prior to General Election
September 18, 2010 Publication of proposed charter with alternatives in at least two newspapers of general circulation. Hawai‘i Charter 15-3: Publication at least 45 days in advance of election
October 12, 2010 Publication of proposed charter with alternatives in a newspaper of general circulation. Hawai‘i Revised Statutes § 50-10: State Requirement publication at least 21 days in advance of election.
November 2, 2010 General Election  

Note: Charter Commission must determine whether a special election or regular election will be called.
