(808) 961-8942 Recycling sectionFAX NUMBER (808) 961-8553 DESCRIPTION The Solid Waste Division operates and maintains, either by County personnel or by contracted services, all solid waste collection and disposal facilities in the County of Hawaii. This includes two (2) landfills, twenty-one (21) transfer stations and island wide hauling operations in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines and regulations. The Division also administers the Abandoned Vehicle Program, tasked with removal and disposal of derelict vehicles found on publicly accessible roadways. The Solid Waste Division maintains operational base yards in South Hilo, Waimea, and Kealakehe, Kona. The island wide duties are handled with a workforce of seventy (70) employees.

Abandoned Vehicle Removal Program Fact Sheet
The Derelict Vehicle Amnesty Program has been temporarily suspended. On private property, please look in the phonebook for a local tow company to haul your vehicle to the nearest Scrap Metal Facility. Before they tow away your vehicle remember to remove the license plates and turn them in along with your registration papers and completed Application for "Junk" Status vehicle form to the Motor Vehicle Registration Division of the County Finance Department.
