The Public Works staff and employees work to keep Hawai‘i County’s infrastructure safe and clean. You may have seen us as we fill potholes and replace burnt-out streetlights, repair bridges and work to keep our crosswalks, intersections and streets safe for everyone. We assist you in getting building permits, and we inspect the construction to make sure it is safe for you, your family and clients. We keep our existing buildings clean and plan future County facilities. And much more that you may take for granted, which is the way it should be.

We work in the department’s administration, automotive, highway maintenance and communications, as engineers and in the traffic, building divisions. Together our goal is your safety in all matters relating to engineering; public and private building construction and inspection; construction, inspection and maintenance of public streets, highways, bridges and drainage facilities; acquisition of public and private properties for public purposes; design, operation and maintenance of traffic signals and traffic control devices and all other Public Works projects.
