To all concerned citizens:
The Year 2000 is an important issue that affects all of us and it will draw increased attention as we approach the new millennium. I want to assure you that the County of Hawaii is well on its way toward preparing its computers and other affected systems for the turn of the century. Many people within our county government are working hard to ensure that the public services we provide to the citizens and businesses on the Big Island will continue to be delivered as expected.
Our initial Year 2000 preparation actually started back in 1996, when we did a preliminary Y2K assessment of our main computer systems and began taking action to deal with anticipated problems. Our overall plan for addressing Y2K issues consists of the following major steps:
To implement our Y2K project, we established a Y2K coordinator within each major County department and agency. Of note, the majority of our computer systems and applications have already been upgraded and tested for the Year 2000. Our goal is to complete all remaining critical work to prepare for the Year 2000 by September 30, 1999. We will be issuing periodic Y2K Project Status Reports. A copy of the latest report is available upon request. It can be also be found on the County of Hawaii's official Internet web site at www.hawaii-county.com which is accessible, 24-hours a day.
With government, the business community, and individuals all working together we can look forward to the arrival of the Year 2000 and be assured that the life style we have come to enjoy on the Big Island will continue into the 21st century.
