RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

County Computer Systems & Business Operations

In October, Data Systems Department held a meeting with Y2K coordinators from all County departments and agencies to review overall Y2K project status to date, discuss outside vendor readiness, and review the contingency planning process for computer systems.

Police Department & Public Works/Automotive Division completed Y2K software upgrades for their Gasboy Fuel Management application.

The Prosecuting Attorney Office completed Y2K upgrades for their Kona computer system.

 

Liquor Control Department completed Y2K replacement of their computer system.

Public Works/Automotive Division completed Y2K replacement of their computer system.

Planning Department completed Y2K replacement of their computer system.

Water Department completed Y2K upgrade for their IBM computer system and software modifications for their Payroll, Water Billing, and Daily Cash Receipts computer applications.

Public Works/Automotive Division completed Y2K software upgrade for their Fleet

Maintenance/Fuel Log computer application.

A memo was issued by the Managing Director to all County departments and agencies regarding the need to complete contingency plans, train key personnel to execute the plans, and plan for Y2K testing of critical systems on January 1, 2000.

In November, County departments and agencies completed contingency plans for all critical computer applications and computer systems.

At this point, all of the County's computer systems and applications have been updated and made ready for the arrival of the Year 2000.

 

Essential Community Services Project

Civil Defense published a brochure summarizing the community partnering program and Y2K readiness of essential service providers supporting the Big Island community. Approximately 30,000 copies were made available to the public. This material was also posted on the County's Internet web site at "www.hawaii-county.com".

 

YEAR 2000 PROJECT SCHEDULE

 DECEMBER 1999

Review, update, and finalize any contingency plans as may be necessary.

Conduct any additional testing or updating deemed necessary for critical computer systems and applications or other areas of concerns.

Plan for special new millennium Y2K operational testing for critical applications and systems on Saturday, January 1, 2000, to ensure systems are running as expected. This will enable any needed additional Y2K work to be performed over the weekend prior to the arrival of the first regular County business day on Monday, January 3.

Conduct a Y2K status update for the benefit of the County Council.

Update Y2K status information on the County’s Internet web site.

Issue a memo to Y2K coordinators from all County departments and agencies to discuss final planning and implementation issues related to entering the new year 2000 and the testing to be conducted on January 1.

Issue final Y2K "turn of the century" status report to close out the project.

If necessary, meet with Y2K coordinators from all County departments and agencies to review and discuss follow up issues related to operating in the new century.

Dollar amounts shown are estimates based upon current information available. In some instances, purchases from outside vendors for Y2K upgrades and replacements may include additional hardware and software components that were added into the package to improve overall system performance or to extend capabilities and use.

Funding for the various Y2K projects includes county, state, and federal sources.
